Their journey started with a visit to IIT Kanpur, where the team participated in the Pan-IIT and IISERs Meeting and Conference on Engineering in Medicine during 6th – 8th December 2024 at the Department of Biological Sciences and Bioengineering  BSBE, IIT Kanpur. The conference focused on three themes: Regenerative Medicine, Molecular Medicine, Digital Medicine. The Aalto delegates  presented their research work, and networked with international scientific community exploring areas for collaboration. The team also had the chance to visit newly established Mehta Family Center  for  Engineering  in  Medicine,  and  upcoming  Gangwal  School  of Medical  Sciences  and Technologies at IIT Kanpur.

Following the conference, Dr. Baniasadi and Prof. Seppälä continued their travel to Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, to attend the TransMedTech Conference organized as part of the Annual Biomaterial Society meeting by IIT Kanpur. They presented their research work, chaired sessions, and engaged with researchers from around the world. The visit concluded with a significant recognition for Prof. Seppälä, receiving the “Honorary Fellow” award by the Indian Society for Biomaterials and Artificial Organs, marking a prestigious acknowledgment of his research contributions and collaboration.

Long time collaboration existing between Professor Jukka Seppälä, Aalto University and Professor Ashok Kumar, Director, IIT Kanpur-La Trobe University Research Academy  and Professor of Bioengineering, IIT Kanpur paved the way for this fruitful research visit. Aalto University honored Professor Ashok Kumar with a Honorary Doctorate in 2024. More information on the honor can be seen at 'Ashok Kumar - The new Honorary Doctor'.

The active collaboration between Aalto University and IIT Kanpur has already resulted in several high quality research publications. Articles on the existing collaboration can be seen at, 'Value added biomaterials' and 'Elevating Biomaterial Research'
