Aalto Leads Finnish Delegation Visits to India: Building Bridges Across Continents

Aalto coordinated and led three different Finnish academic delegations to India. Members from Aalto University, Tampere University (TUNI), University of Oulu (OU), and University of Vaasa (UVA) participated in the 23-day long visit to explore new horizons for collaboration in education, research, and industry. The visit, which took place from April 12 to May 8, 2024, was a significant step towards strengthening ties between Finnish and Indian Academia.

The delegation, comprising of 13 representatives, engaged in a series of high-impact activities across seven Indian cities. Key activities included: 

With over 750 in-person interactions, the delegation's efforts promoted strong interest in fostering Indo-Finnish collaboration. The visit had several important takeaways, for example,

  • US/AUS partnership models in Degree Programmes 
  • Alumni engagement & fund raising 
  • Offshore campus models 
  • Research & Innovation Partnerships 
  • New Hybrid Models for Pathways/Student recruitment 
  1. Talent attraction and Business opportunities  
  2. Possibilities for academic collaboration and 
  3. Alumni Engagement 

The visit has laid the groundwork for several upcoming initiatives. One of the planned initiatives includes signing an Open Framework MoU between Indian Institute of Science (IISc) and Finnish Universities. The initiatives are expected to further strengthen collaborations and foster new opportunities in the coming years. 

The Finnish delegation’s visit to India marks a significant step forward in fostering robust academic partnerships. By embracing innovative collaboration mechanisms and focusing on long-term engagements, Aalto University and its Finnish partners are poised to capitalize on the vast opportunities within India’s increasing educational and industrial landscape.
