Tampere University invites Indian partners to collaborate on VR research

The Virtual Natural Environment (VirNE) project led by the Pervasive Interaction Research Group of Tampere Unit for Computer-Human Interaction (TAUCHI) at Tampere University (TAU), and Tampere University Hospital (TAYS) aims to be a general platform for therapeutic virtual environments. TAUCHI seeks a proposal from Indian Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) to localize the application to the Indian context and conduct user studies. The target users for the proposed application are children and adolescents.

Tampere Unit for Computer-Human Interaction (TAUCHI) is a leading research unit at Tampere University. TAUCHI has more than two decades of research on myriad aspects of multi-modal interaction.

The Virtual Natural Environment (VirNE) project aims to be a general platform for therapeutic virtual environments. The application for this project uses Virtual Reality (VR), utilizing the Finnish natural scenarios in the background, and helps the users perform relaxation and breathing exercises. In the current setup, the Finnish language is used in the application and is targeted toward children and adolescents. Professor Markku Turunen (TAU) leads the human-computer interaction researchers and Professor Kaija Puura (TAYS) brings her expertise in the field of Child Psychiatry.

Proposals are invited from Indian HEIs to localize the application to the Indian context – background, language, and other cultural aspects that might have a bearing on the application. Subsequently, user studies should be conducted with the target user groups (children and adolescents).

Interested HEIs are requested to submit their expression of interest explaining their motivation and previous experience with such studies by submitting the details through this Registration Form. TAUCHI will finalize the collaborators after consultations.

For further details please contact Markku Turunen, Biju Thankachan, and Rucha Tulaskar.
